Scheduling Committee

Dear Fellow Members:

Just wanted to give you a little insight as what the Scheduling Committee has been doing. We meet with planning at the beginning of the month to discuss different solutions for the pairings for the following month. Items that are looked at to decide which solution will best work are the following: type of trips (1-4 day trips, CDO) Block per duty, Credit time, Time away from base, hotel costs, # of hotels, salary, cost per block hour, AC changes, landings per duty, max rest, duty time, per diem costs. Those involved in this are Jerry Peronto, Todd Morrow, Kara Money, Jill Christopher, Lucy Hathcote, and several others.

After our pairings meeting then the scheduling committee (Patty Parker-DTW, Georgia Moehnke-MSP, Shirley McKinney-MEM, David Doying-ATL) meet with Jill Christopher and some of the above if they are available where we discuss and brainstorm ideas to try to improve the quality of life of all FA’s.

Within the next couple of weeks all FA’s should have a survey put in their V-file. We are asking the members for their feedback to see if the FA’s would like to bring back FA’s to work the trip/trade desk. The main reason this is being considered is that scheduling does not always meet the 24 hour contractual time to respond to the FA when they submit a request. Please take the time to fill out the survey and return it by the deadline that will be on the form. This is your opportunity to voice your opinion.

I know there has been disagreement about PT parameters being moved up to 60. This does not mean PT will be scheduled to work more. The contract states PT will fly 6 days a month. That will still be the case. When a senior FA did not receive the two three day trips that they bid for it was discovered it was because the total credit hours was 44:07 which was 7 minutes more than what the parameters were set at therefore not awarding them the trips. The contract does not specify hours, only days.

During the bidding session the scheduling committee takes turns sitting with Kara Money until the end of the protests. They help her by answering questions about bidding if someone calls and Kara can’t talk at that time. They also see the protests come in and watches as Kara sees if the protest is a valid one. Kara then returns the answer to the protest by email.

If a FA would like to sit and shadow Kara during the bid period they are welcome to do so. Space is limited so only 1 FA at a time. You can contact Kara or the Scheduling Chairperson—Sue Henriott to set up a time. This is a great opportunity for anyone to see what all is involved with the bidding process and how it all works.

Several of the committee members will be shadowing schedulers this month. We will be looking for any signs of unprofessional behavior and making sure they are not pulling any tricks in how they get FA’s to contact them, and seeing how they assign flying to RSV’s. I am sure when we are shadowing them; they will probably be on the “best” behavior. It is very important for you to report to us if and when scheduling tries to extend or junior man you illegally, threaten you in any way, or any unprofessional comments. Please document the time, date, who and what happened. We cannot stress the importance of this as well as getting us the information as quick as possible. We cannot do anything if we do not have the documentation from you.

If you have any questions, suggestions or concerns please contact the scheduling representative from your base. Their email addresses will follow:
